Govt approves 3 Mega Projects for Road and Bridge Construction in Sahiwal

The Punjab government has included three mega projects in the Annual Development Program of the new fiscal year to improve transportation infrastructure in Sahiwal district.

Construction of new projects worth Rs. 8 billion will provide major relief to commuters.

Most important of these projects is the reconstruction and conversion of the Old GT Road passing through Sahiwal city into a one-way road.

Due to the current deteriorated condition of this road, inbound and outbound transport in the city is facing serious challenges.

Initial estimated cost of this major project is Rs. 2 billion. Under this plan, the dual carriageway from Lahore Bypass (McDonald’s Chowk) to Arifwala Bridge will be carpeted.

Additionally, the road from Arifwala Bridge to Multan Bypass Chowk will be converted into a one-way and carpeted.

Second major project included in the Punjab government’s budget is the conversion of the Sahiwal-to-Samundri road into a one-way route.

This project will facilitate travelers from the districts of Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Bahawalnagar heading toward Faisalabad and Islamabad.

Construction of an overhead bridge at Gamber Railway Crossing is also included in the new fiscal year’s budget.

It will save thousands of residents from dozens of nearby villages along Gamber-Norshah Road from waiting for hours daily at the railway crossing.

Estimated cost of this significant project is over Rs. 2.5 billion.
