Social Welfare Department Holds Review Meeting for Provision of Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities

SAHIWAL: A review meeting was held under the auspices of the Social Welfare Department to assess the provision of assistive devices to persons with disabilities, with Additional Deputy Commissioner General Niaz Ahmed Mughal reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified and independent life for differently-abled individuals.
Presiding over the meeting of the District Welfare and Rehabilitation Unit at Montgomery Hall, the additional deputy commissioner said that persons with disabilities are an integral part of society. He emphasized that disability is a physical limitation, not a lack of ability, and stressed that the district administration is determined to provide not only assistive devices but also employment opportunities to enable their social and economic inclusion.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Director Social Welfare Muhammad Abbas, Deputy Director Colleges Imran Jafar, social activist Dr. Mujtaba Jamal, Social Welfare Officers Syed Ali Shirazi and Amjad Ali Dhukko, along with representatives of various departments.
After a detailed scrutiny process, the meeting approved the provision of assistive devices to 427 deserving persons with disabilities. The approved equipment includes wheelchairs, hearing aids, tricycles, tri-motorcycles, and other supportive tools aimed at improving mobility and quality of life.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Niaz Ahmed Mughal directed the concerned officers to ensure the timely and transparent distribution of these devices so that tangible improvements can be made in the lives of the beneficiaries.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the three percent quota reserved for persons with disabilities in the private sector and emphasized the need for effective enforcement to ensure meaningful progress in this regard.
