Sahiwal: DC Chairs Accident Review Meeting; Vows Zero Tolerance for Traffic Violations

Representatives from the Regional Transport Authority and Motorway Police attended the meeting.

SAHIWAL – In a high-stakes move to curb the rising number of road fatalities, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) convened a meeting of the Accident Review Committee today. The session, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shahid Mahmood, brought together key stakeholders to dissect the causes of recent mishaps and overhaul traffic safety protocols.

Cracking Down on Negligence

Addressing the committee, DC Shahid Mahmood delivered a stern message regarding road safety. He emphasized that the loss of precious human lives due to avoidable negligence would no longer be tolerated.

“Most accidents are the direct result of irresponsible driving, overloading, overspeeding, and the operation of vehicles without valid fitness certificates,” the Deputy Commissioner stated. “We must enforce a zero-tolerance policy against these violations to ensure public safety.”

Inter-Departmental Briefings

The meeting served as a platform for various departments to share data and strategies:

  • RTA Secretary Wasif Yasin: Reported that a special district-wide campaign is underway to inspect the fitness of vehicles. The department is specifically focusing on school vans, passenger buses, and heavy transport to prevent mechanical failures on the road.

  • Rescue 1122: Officials briefed the committee on new measures to streamline first aid response. The goal is to significantly reduce response times during the “golden hour” following an accident.

  • Traffic Police: Presented a mapping of accident-prone “black spots” on major highways and urban roads, calling for improved signage and patrolling in these specific zones.
