History of Hujra Shah Muqeem
Hujra Shah Muqeem, located in
Okara District, Punjab, Pakistan, is a historic town named after the revered
Sufi saint Shah Muqeem, who settled in the area centuries ago. The term “Hujra” refers to the saint’s spiritual retreat, around which people gradually built a settlement.
Originally an agricultural region, the town gained prominence during the
Mughal and Sikh periods for its fertile land and strategic location. Under
British rule, canal irrigation and roads further developed the area. After
Partition in 1947, Muslim refugees settled here, boosting its population and leading to the growth of markets, schools, and civic institutions.
Today, Hujra Shah Muqeem is known for its
agriculture, religious significance, and cultural heritage, with the annual
Urs of Hazrat Shah Muqeem attracting devotees from across Punjab. The town remains an important local center, reflecting traditional Punjabi culture and spirituality.
