PML-N Dominates Sahiwal Division in 2024 Provincial Election Sweep

SAHIWAL – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the leading force in the Sahiwal Division following the 2024 General Elections, securing a vast majority of the Punjab Assembly seats across the districts of Okara, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal.

While Independent candidates (IND)—many backed by the PTI—offered stiff competition and maintained a strong presence, the final results solidify PML-N's traditional stronghold in the region.

Okara District: A Clean Sweep for PML-N

In Okara, the PML-N managed a remarkable performance, winning all eight provincial constituencies. Heavyweights and newcomers alike secured their spots in the provincial assembly:

Constituency Winner Party Runner-up
PP-185 Javed Ala Ud Din Sajid PML-N Mehar Muhammad Javed (IND)
PP-186 Syed Ashiq Hussain Shah Kirmani PML-N Syed Gulzar Husnain (IND)
PP-187 Ch. Iftikhar Hussain Chachar PML-N Mian Muhammad Fiaz Qasim (IND)
PP-188 Noor Ul Amin Wattoo PML-N Mozzam Jehanzeb Wattoo (IND)
PP-189 Ali Abbas Khokhar PML-N Ch. Tariq Irshad Khan (IND)
PP-190 Mian Yawar Zaman PML-N Mehar Abdul Sattar (IND)
PP-191 Mian Muhammad Munir PML-N Muhammad Saleem Sadiq (IND)
PP-192 Ghulam Raza PML-N Rai Hammad Aslam Kharal (IND)

Pakpattan District: Mixed Results

The electoral battle in Pakpattan saw more variety, with Independents managing to break through the PML-N defense in one key constituency.

  • PML-N Wins: Farooq Ahmed Khan Maneka (PP-193), Ch. Javed Ahmad Advocate (PP-194), Dr. Farrukh Javed (PP-196), and Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar (PP-197) all secured victories for the "Lion."

  • Independent Breakthrough: In PP-195, Independent candidate Imran Akram Jutt pulled off a decisive win with 51,083 votes, defeating PML-N’s Kashif Ali Chishty.

Sahiwal District: Tight Races in Chichawatni

Sahiwal district remained largely loyal to the PML-N, though the Chichawatni tehsils proved to be the most competitive battlegrounds in the division.

  • Sahiwal City/Tehsil: Peer Walayat Shah Khagga (PP-198), Qasim Nadeem (PP-199), Mohammad Arshad Malik (PP-200), and Naveed Aslam Khan Lodhi (PP-201) swept the area for PML-N.

  • The Chichawatni Contests: * PP-202: Rana Riaz Ahmad (PML-N) won by a razor-thin margin of just 405 votes against Haji Waheed Asghar Dogar (IND).

    • Independent Surge: The Independents found significant success in the final two seats. Rai Murtaza Iqbal claimed PP-203 with a massive 55,874 votes, while Major Ghulam Sarwar dominated PP-204 with 60,438 votes.

Summary of the Division

The 2024 results for Sahiwal Division highlight a resilient PML-N vote bank, particularly in urban and semi-urban centers. However, the high vote counts for Independent candidates across almost every constituency suggest a deeply polarized electorate and a strong challenge from the opposition's grassroots support.

Other parties, including the PPP, TLP, and JI, maintained a presence on the ballot but failed to secure any seats in this division.
