Two Children Tragicallly Killed in Sahiwal House Fire Caused by Coal Heater

SAHIWAL – A somber atmosphere gripped Bashir Colony on Thursday after two minor brothers were burnt alive when a coal stove accidentally ignited a massive fire in their home.

The victims, identified as Abdur Rehman (8) and Abdullah (6), were trapped inside their room when the blaze broke out. Their father, Muhammad Yasin, a local laborer, and their mother, who works as domestic help, had both left for their respective jobs early in the morning. To shield the children from the severe winter cold, the parents had left a coal stove burning in the room.

The Incident

According to reports, the fire started when a piece of burning coal fell out of the stove, landing on nearby fabric. The flames spread with terrifying speed, quickly engulfing clothing, quilts, and wooden furniture.

The children's seven-year-old sister, Samiya, managed to escape the room and immediately raised an alarm. Her cries alerted neighbors and passersby, who rushed to the scene and contacted Rescue 1122.

"By the time help arrived, the blaze had already consumed the room, leaving both children fatally injured and destroying household items," said an eyewitness.

Emergency Response

Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and managed to extinguish the fire, but they could only recover the remains of the two young boys. Both had sustained critical burns and succumbed to their injuries before they could receive medical assistance.

The Ghalla Mandi police arrived shortly after to oversee the situation. After a post-mortem examination at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, the remains were handed over to the devastated family for burial.

Official Visit and Investigation

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Samiullah Farooq visited Bashir Colony following the incident. He expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and shared his grief over the loss of two innocent lives.

Police have officially initiated an investigation into the incident to confirm the sequence of events. Authorities are also using this tragedy to remind citizens to exercise extreme caution when using coal or gas heaters in enclosed spaces during the winter season.
